Juan Córdova

Juan Córdova is a Professional Development Associate for The Leadership and Learning Center located in Englewood, Colorado.  During his years as a public school educator, he has served as the Principal of a 4th – 8th grade school, the Principal of an elementary and middle school, an assistant principal, dean, and social studies teacher.

As a professor of introductory education classes at Central Florida Community College, Juan has enjoyed the opportunity to directly impact up-and-coming teachers, sharing with them a realistic view of what teaching is like and providing them with a foundation for future success.  His passion for Reading has led him to be a presenter at the state Reading First Conference and at the National Effective Schools Conference.  Occasionally, he also teaches about one of his great passions, ELL students, for Florida Southern University.  Juan has a wealth of experience with professional development, including work as a district trainer in Clinical Education and the Florida Performance Measurement System.  Both of these involvements tie directly to his desire to positively impact beginning teachers.

Juan holds a bachelor’s degree and a specialist degree from the University of Florida and a master’s degree from Florida International University.  He is working on his PhD in Educational Leadership, and is expecting completion in the summer of 2010.

Juan has two children, Trevor (11) and Alexis (9), and lives in Ocala, Florida.  He serves on a variety of boards, including the Boys and Girls Club, sings in his Church’s Praise Band and plays a variety of sports.  His personal motto for success is “Good is not enough when better is possible.” He uses this as the driving force in everything he does.

—Anona Kelly, Burmusa Ministry of Education

“Juan was fantastic.  The adult engagement was incredible, never a down moment and people left excited and rejuvenated, chock full of info about effective teaching strategies.  The best part was we actively demonstrated and "practiced" most of them!  Many of the teachers commented that they would come back over and over to see him and feel that they would gain new knowledge each time.”
—A.J. Palermo, Coordinator of K-12 Methematics and Professional Development, West Haven Public Schools, West Haven, CT

“Even though the audience did not volunteer to attend and even though there could have been resentments on the teachers’ part…  The presenters (Barb Pitchford, Juan Córdova, and Lynn Howard) won everyone over and provided excellent, relevant training!  The teachers knew they could take this information back to their classrooms and use it!”
—Julia G. Gregory, Director, Olympia Professional Development Academy, Richland School District One

“Thank you! I appreciate your honesty and "real life" attitude.”
