Tracey K. Shiel

Tracey has been a Professional Development Associate with The Leadership and Learning Center since September 2005. She has worn many hats over her years in the field of education, including the administrative positions of Interim Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, School Business Administrator, and Middle School Principal. Her career in education began as a social studies teacher at the middle school level followed by being a middle school remedial reading teacher, focusing on content area reading.

As an administrator at the district and building level, Tracey has held administrators, instructional, and non-instructional staff accountable through a variety of structures in order to promote school improvement. Emphasis was placed on researched-based professional development for school improvement, which is how Tracey became involved in The Leadership and Learning Center. Tracey has had the opportunity to organize and facilitate the development of a variety of school plans, including a Professional Development Plan and Annual Professional Performance Review Plan, which focuses on the evaluation of instructional staff. Facilitation skills are an area of strength for Tracey.

Tracey oversees a few key services offered by The Leadership and Learning Center, including Leadership Performance Coaching, Implementation Audits™, and related services. She has had the opportunity to provide Leadership Performance Coaching to a number of clients at the building, district, and regional levels to support them in achieving critical school improvement goals. Tracey has been pivotal in the development of initiative-specific rubrics for a number of initiatives to be used in the Implementation Audit™ process. Additionally, she provides professional development and implementation days in the areas of data, nonfiction writing, and assessment. Prior to her work with The Center, Tracey provided professional development workshops in the areas of data analysis, content area reading, and school finance. Tracey has supervised graduate students at Syracuse University in the diagnosis and remediation of disabled readers at the University’s Reading Clinic. In the summer of 2011, her first book, Engaging Students through Performance Tasks: Monitoring Student Learning, was published.

Tracey holds a C.A.S. in Educational Administration from SUNY Oswego, a M.S in Reading from Syracuse University and a B.A in Economics from the University of Richmond.

Tracey and John, her lifelong partner, reside in beautiful Skaneateles, New York. They enjoy entertaining, golfing, and traveling.
