This handbook is the first in the Getting Ready for the Common Core Handbook Series. It provides the roadmap that educators and leaders need to begin implementation of the Common Core. The authors ask readers to question their readiness and create a plan to support the implementation of the standards. The authors also provide historical background on how the standards evolved, why the increased rigor is critical for students, and how all learners can be supported using the Common Core State Standards.

This resource also includes the learning progressions for the mathematics standards.

This book provides a focus for using formative assessment processes and the Common Core, as well as strategies for aligning Professional Learning Communities and Data Teams’ practices as continuous improvement structures ensuring sustainability.
