The Accelerating Academic Achievement for English Language Learners seminar focuses on differentiation between ESL and ELD curriculums and sheltered instruction. The presenter will model teaching strategies throughout the training to enable teachers to experience active participation in a learning situation. As a result, teachers will develop a stronger understanding of active participation, collaborative learning and through analysis will be able to make strong instructional decisions for English Language Learners. The models are research-based and participants will be able to apply new learning in their classrooms.
During this interactive seminar participants will:
- Learn information on language-acquisition levels
- Learn student behaviors demonstrated at each stage of second-language acquisition
- Learn instructional strategies to use at each stage of second-language acquisition
- Compare and contrast ELD and sheltered instruction
- Learn a variety of sheltered instruction strategies (e.g., accessing prior knowledge, using processing time, graphic organizers).
What are the learning objectives of this seminar?
As a result of this seminar participants will be able to:
- Plan for instruction using sheltered instructional strategies
- Differentiate instruction for English language learners
- Engage students in active listening, speaking, reading and writing

Our group-discounted room rate is $119 per night plus tax. Please mention The Leadership and Learning Center to receive the discounted rate. The discounted rate is subject to availability and will only be available until October 23, 2012 or when the block of rooms sells out whichever comes first. If the room block does sell out, we will do our best to find a hotel near the training location at a comparable rate. Training participants are responsible for their own hotel room reservations and payments. Please note the Four Points by Sheraton Fresno does not accept purchase orders as payment.
The Four Points by Sheraton Fresno is located approximately 3 miles from the Fresno Yosemite International Airport. The hotel offers a complementary shuttle service to and from the airport. Reservations are necessary. For more information please call the hotel directly at (559) 226-2200. Taxi service runs for approximately $13 each way. Complimentary self-parking is available for all registrants.
Please do not book accommodation until your registration has been confirmed as events may reach capacity and be sold out at any point in time.
The Atlanta Marriott Northwest at Galleria is located 22 miles from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Taxi service runs from $55 each way. Parking is complimentary.

Teams of 5 or more receive $20 off of the full individual tuition for each attendee.

Registrations will be confirmed via email. Please wait until you receive confirmation to make travel arrangements as our events may reach capacity and be sold out at any point in time.
Cancellations and Substitutions
By submitting an online registration you are agreeing to pay the registration fee regardless of the payment method specified at time of submission and you agree to this Cancellation and Substitution policy. You must cancel in writing. The Center does not give refunds. If you cancel more than 30 days in advance of the conference, The Center will apply 100% of the tuition to your Center account for future purchases of our products or services. If you cancel fewer than 30 days in advance of the conference, The Center will apply a tuition credit to your Center account, less a cancellation fee of 50% of the conference tuition. The Center permits substitutes for registered attendees who are unable to attend at the last minute. Please send notice of cancellation or substitution to MMcdevitt@LeadandLearn.com.
