Art and Science of Teaching
Presented by The Leadership and Learning Center and ASCD
DESCRIPTION:
This one-day seminar is intended to provide teachers and educational leaders with an
overview of the ten instructional design questions introduced in Dr. Robert Marzano’s
groundbreaking new book, The Art and Science of Teaching. The ten design questions
integrate all of the previous research of Dr. Marzano and his colleagues into a
comprehensive framework for teaching. Issues ranging from the identification and
design of critical input experiences, to the relationships between staff and students,
to classroom rules and procedures are woven into a template for effective instructional
practice. Participants in this seminar will review a synopsis of the research and engage
in an application of the strategies represented for each instructional design question. Teachers and leaders will also identify their most urgent areas of need in each of the design questions through a series of guided reflections. Finally, teachers and leaders will design results indicators to help monitor selected practices.
WHAT IS THE ART AND SCIENCE OF TEACHING ONE DAY SEMINAR?
During this seminar participants will:
- Understand the ten design questions comprising the comprehensive framework for effective instruction
- Review the research foundation for each instructional design question
- Determine next steps to address individual needs
- Consider results indicators to monitor implementation
THE RESEARCH:
This seminar is created directly from the groundbreaking synthesis of thousands of educational studies created by Robert Marzano and his colleagues. Some of the topics of the studies include practice, schema construction, engagement, rules and procedures, assessment, and feedback.
THE BENEFITS:
This seminar provides participants with a concise synopsis of decades of educational research and helps them identify implications for their own professional practice. Educators will also receive a “hands-on” experience with many strategies related to each instructional design question. This seminar is created directly from the groundbreaking synthesis of thousands of educational studies created by Robert Marzano and his colleagues.
