Content & Agenda

Join Dr. Lucy Calkins, national writing authority, author, and teacher, at The Leadership and Learning Center's 2009 Writing Institute! Dr. Calkins will present a compelling keynote address entitled "Supporting Whole School Reform in Writing: The Role of Leaders." Following Dr. Calkins, three concurrent learning strands will provide something for everyone, from the novice to the experienced, in all content areas.

For ESL learners, Bonnie Bishop will present Interactive Writing for English Learners - Writing in Action!, a learning strand exclusively dedicated to help ESL teachers and students.

Alice Greiner, author of The Write Tools: Strategies that Make an Immediate Difference in the Classroom, will present Expository Writing: Clear, Concise Paragraphs and Essays and The Write Tools: Personal Narrative Writing. Dr. Greiner's seminars are designed for grades K-12 educators who possess minimal experience using writing in the classroom to improve overall student achievement.

Dr. Angela Peery will present Writing to Learn: Instructional Strategies for NonFiction Writing and Writing to Learn: Assessing NonFiction Writing. These seminars are designed for grades 3-12 educators experienced with using writing in the classroom in content areas other than English language arts. These seminars are intended to move school faculties toward using common strategies and collaborative scoring processes.
