Dr. Lucy Calkins, national writing authority, author,
and teacher, at The Leadership and Learning Center's
2009 Writing Institute! Dr. Calkins will present a compelling
keynote address entitled "Supporting Whole School
Reform in Writing: The Role of Leaders." Following
Dr. Calkins, three concurrent learning strands will provide
something for everyone, from the novice to the experienced,
in all content areas.
For
ESL learners, Bonnie Bishop will present Interactive Writing
for English Learners - Writing in Action!, a learning
strand exclusively dedicated to help ESL teachers and
students.
Alice
Greiner, author of The Write Tools: Strategies that Make
an Immediate Difference in the Classroom, will present
Expository Writing: Clear, Concise Paragraphs and Essays
and The Write Tools: Personal Narrative Writing. Dr.
Greiner's seminars are designed for grades K-12 educators
who possess minimal experience using writing in the classroom
to improve overall student achievement.
Dr.
Angela Peery will present Writing to Learn: Instructional
Strategies for NonFiction Writing and Writing to Learn:
Assessing NonFiction Writing. These seminars are designed
for grades 3-12 educators experienced with using writing
in the classroom in content areas other than English language
arts. These seminars are intended to move school faculties
toward using common strategies and collaborative scoring
processes.
